Interest Rate Deregulation and Performance of Deposit Money Banks: Time Series Evidence from Nigeria

This work investigated the relationship between interest rate deregulation and performance of Nigerian deposit money banks for period 1996-2018. Interest was disaggregated into prime lending rate, maximum 3-months over 12-months while return on assets (ROA) used as a proxy banks’ performance. Data above variables were sourced from Central Bank Nigeria Statistical Bulletin (2018 edition) World data base. The tested stationarity using Dickey-Fuller (D-F) test, long-run Bound’s co-integration reliability ARDL results serial correlation, heteroscedasticity normality tests. tests revealed that all integrated order zero or one, exists variables. Consequently, model parameter estimation process only positively related to ROA none explanatory statistically significant. researcher then submitted there is no significant considered.
